Start with the structure and operating horizon
A covering decision begins with what the frame can safely receive. Curved hoop structures, temporary tunnels and seasonal projects often lead to a film workflow. Permanent, rigid structures may support a panel system, but panel dimensions, glazing bars, edge closures, expansion allowance and support spacing still need to match the exact manufacturer instructions. Neither material category is universally better; each carries a different installation and maintenance job.
Compare the complete covering system
Put the cover surface beside the accessories required to make it work: fastening channel or profile, wiggle wire or clamps, tape, seals, endwall treatment, support members and expected repair work. For film, record the intended layer arrangement, inflation equipment when applicable, and the planned inspection cycle. For panels, record the stated span limits, panel orientation, UV-protected face and thermal expansion details. This creates a comparison that suppliers can quote accurately and that a future replacement can repeat.
Validate before ordering
- Confirm frame geometry, support spacing and local wind or snow requirements.
- Check the exact product data sheet, installation manual and warranty conditions.
- Compare light transmission, insulation claims and service work for the whole installed system.
- Measure the cover route and named fastening points before requesting a quotation.
